PROJECT HEALTH
Project HEALTH (Harnessing Education, Advocacy, and Leadership in Transgender Health), a program of Lyon-Martin Community Health Services, is dedicated to expanding access to healthcare for transgender individuals through provider education. We work to bridge gaps between healthcare providers, insurance companies, policy makers and patients while increasing access to health education and participation in health advocacy at both the provider and community levels.

Lyon-Martin offers tailored trainings and consulting services for healthcare providers, organizations, and institutions committed to improving care for queer, transgender, and intersex (QTI) communities.
For Health Care Organizations
We provide consulting and educational support to clinics, hospitals, insurance companies, healthcare professional schools, and related organizations. Our goal is to help you build affirming, inclusive, and clinically competent environments for QTI patients and staff.Training Development

Strengthening Healthcare Access
Since 2008, hundred of clinics and hospitals have been trained and assisted to provide better care for transgender patients.Policy & Systemic Change
Humboldt County, a major employer and healthcare provider, adopted employment nondiscrimination policies for transgender individuals.
San Francisco removed transgender exclusions from its healthcare policy for uninsured residents.
Training the Next Generation
Over 100 medical students trained since 2008.
93% of trainees applied their knowledge within 6 months.
More than half became involved in transgender advocacy and healthcare reform.
Providing Essential Resources
A national transgender medical consultation service now exists to support healthcare providers in delivering competent and inclusive care.

Clinical Rotation & Externships

Are you a MD, DO, NP, or PA student, resident, or fellow? Lyon-Martin offers a comprehensive clinical rotation focusing on gender affirming primary care, sexual healthcare, and gynecology. Participants gain:
✔ A deeper understanding of the healthcare needs and barriers faced by queer, trans, and intersex individuals

In collaboration with San Francisco State University’s Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences, Lyon-Martin’s Speech Therapy Externship provides second-year speech therapy students at SFSU with experiential training in gender-affirming voice and speech therapy at Lyon-Martin. SFSU students will earn hours toward licensure through this program.

TRANSLINE
QTI BIPOC Healthcare Fellowship

Lyon-Martin’s QTI BIPOC Healthcare Fellowship is designed to support queer, trans, and intersex Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (QTI BIPOC) pursuing careers in healthcare who otherwise may not have had access the educational or work experience necessary to enter the field. This part-time 6-month long, paid fellowship provides training and hands-on experience in Lyon-Martin’s LBTQ+ focused clinic as well as professional development mentorship to support on-going educational and employment efforts.
