Friday, November 20th, 7pm-9pm On display in our waiting room!

On Friday, November 20th, 7pm-9pm, Lyon-Martin Health Services will open our doors to friends and community members to enjoy a solo exhibition of artist danyol. The artist will be in attendance, and refreshments will be served.

San Francisco artist danyol was born in 1970 in Orange County, California just a stone's throw away from Disneyland. Growing up he nourished himself on a steady diet of pop art, cubism, and sarcasm. danyol's use of his own life and surroundings combine to form a dizzying combination of colors, patterns, and textures. These are then masked out by definitive figures and shapes, somehow bringing some definition to his chaos. While bright and smile inducing on initial viewing, look closely at the found objects collaged in the background; they leave hints as to the deeper meaning of the painting. Look at it from one angle and it is seemingly straight forward, but look from another angle in different lighting, and the painting becomes much more.

"Art is such a powerful expression of individual experience," said Anne McGivern, Director of Development and Marketing at Lyon-Martin Health Services. "At Lyon-Martin we welcome every opportunity for individuals to see and be seen for their authentic selves. Because we are committed to addressing the holistic needs of our patient's healthcare, it's rewarding to be reminded daily of the multiple facets of our diverse community voices."

Original art in Lyon-Martin's waiting room is something new for the community health clinic. This project is in collaboration with Femina Potens, the San Francisco non-profit arts organization dedicated to the advancement of women and transgender artists. The two organizations, drawn together similar ideas and concerns, have recently formed a partnership to highlight cutting-edge LGBTQI art and artists at Lyon-Martin. danyol's show is the third of our quarterly installations in the clinic's waiting room.
