San Francisco’s Lyon-Martin Health Services, the Transgender Law Center and Equality California have joined forces to provide an innovative, comprehensive program that expands access to healthcare for transgender individuals.
Lyon-Martin draws on thirty years of working with women and trans folks to address systemic barriers trans people face in accessing health care. The Transgender Law Center and Equality California rely on their experience organizing community, engaging in public policy advocacy, and training a broad range of folks on law and policy issues.
Together, we provide training and technical assistance to California clinics and providers, increase community member and provider participation in health advocacy, and seek to bridge the gap between providers and patients. |

Lyon-Martin Health Services |

 Lyon-Martin Health Services is a community clinic that provides personalized health care and support services to women and transgender people who lack access to quality care because of their sexual orientation or gender identity, regardless of their ability to pay. Almost 50% of our patients are LBGT. The remainder of our patient population is low-income, generally uninsured, heterosexual women who appreciate our patient-centered model of care. Lyon-Martin has served trans patients since our founding in 1979, and in 2005 we strengthened and systematized our services. Our reputation often attracts trans people from other communities where public providers lack cultural and medical competency.

The Transgender Law Center (TLC) |

 Transgender Law Center (TLC) is a civil rights organization advocating for transgender communities. Every day we connect transgender people and their families to technically sound and culturally competent legal services, increase acceptance and enforcement of laws and policies that support California's transgender communities, and work to change laws and systems that fail to incorporate the needs and experiences of transgender people.
TLC utilizes direct legal services, public policy advocacy, and educational opportunities to advance the rights and safety of diverse transgender communities. TLC uses the term "transgender" to represent all of the innumerable genders and forms of gender expression that fall within and outside of stereotypical gender norms. TLC also understands, acknowledges, and resists non-gender based oppressions which limit people's ability to live in peace.

Equality California (EQCA) |

 Equality California (EQCA) works to achieve equality and secure legal protections for LGBT people. Their newest project, the LGBT Health and Human Services Network is a statewide coalition composed of LGBT and allied organizations that provide health and human services to LGBT Californians and their families. The Network focus is on state level policy issues that impact health and human services for LGBT people in California . The Network’s primary goals are to increase access to funding that supports LGBT specific health and human services and to create and implement policy that effectively improves access to quality health and human services for LGBT people.
